What is an ICP license and why do I need it?
All businesses seeking to host content within China, whether it be on their own server(s) or on a third party’s Content Delivery network, are required by law to obtain an Internet Content Provider (ICP) license. ICP licenses are only given to companies with a physical presence in China, and China Telecom can help businesses facilitate the approval process by submitting their applications to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Two types of ICP licenses
- ICP Filing (Bei’An): Both commercial and non-commercial businesses are required to obtain this license in order to host their website on a China-based server or CDN. The approved website can only be used for informational purposes, and integrating e-commerce features or online payment is not permitted. China Telecom can help facilitate this ICP Filing application process.
- ICP Commercial License: This license allows businesses to launch websites with e-commerce and online payment integration on a server or CDN based in Mainland China.
